Alitalia operates in 63 countries and all five continents. Its Sales and Distribution unit (Paola Magnani) sets Alitalia's strategic business targets and is specially committed to achieving excellence in the field of direct sales. This is accomplished through the Internet (where 16 Alitalia local websites get 3 million visits each month), dedicated call centres receiving 10 million calls a year, and 92 ticket counters.

The department comprises Strategic Marketing & Brand Management unit (Frances Vyvyen Ouseley), which produces the marketing plans that position Alitalia within the air transport industry and developes activities concerning brand, services, communication, marketing and brand promotion; Distribution (Paola Magnani), which ensures that the Alitalia product is available across distribution systems (ARCO, the web, Global Distribution Systems, etc.) and adjusts booking systems in accordance with business requirements as well as IATA directives.
