ENVIRONMENT
The air transport service provided by Alitalia involves a number of activities such as flight and ground operations, fleet maintenance, airport services and cargo handling, all of which have an inevitable impact on the surroundings. For this reason, it is essential for the Company to have advanced technical systems to check and control the interaction of its services with the environment, while at the same time ensuring high standards of quality and safety.

In 2005, Alitalia drew up a Code of Ethics and a Charter of Values which represent the cornerstone of the corporate culture, highlighting its awareness of social, ethical and environmental responsibility.  This code is the result of bringing together allthe values considered important not only by everyone working for Alitalia but also by customers, and is an indispensable part of the Company’s image in terms of what customers expect. Among these values is the commitment to safeguard the environment while sustaining development so that the use of industrial and natural resources to provide the Company’s services does not prejudice the quality of life for present or future generations.

Therefore, the theme of environmental compatibility is integrated with strategic planning and everyday activities, becoming part of our customers’ experience.  Alitalia is also actively contributing to the promotion of scientific and technological development aimed at protecting the environment and safeguarding resources.

As a member of the Association of European Airlines (AEA), Alitalia supports the initiatives promoted by the Air Transport Action Group (ATAG), an association that brings together not only airline companies but also civil aviation organisations and industries actively involved in improving infrastructures in order to cut down the environmental impact of air transport. The website www.enviro.aero provides full information on the many steps taken by the various companies in the sector.
