ALITALIA WILL ACCOMPANY HIS HOLINESS POPE FRANCIS ON HIS APOSTOLIC JOURNEY TO SRI LANKA AND PHILIPPINES
THE ALITALIA AIRBUS A330 WILL TAKE OFF TODAY FROM ROME FIUMICINO AIRPORT AT 18.50
Rome, 12 January 2015 - Alitalia is honored to welcome His Holiness Pope Francis on board its flight and to accompany him on his Apostolic journey to Sri Lanka and Philippines which will start today.
The flight will be operated by an Alitalia A330 Airbus aircraft named “Giotto” which will take off from Rome Fiumicino airport today at 18.50 hours. The flight will land at Colombo International airport at 9.00 hours on January 13.
On board the Alitalia Papal Flight, in addition to His Holiness Pope Francis and the papal delegation, representatives of the Italian and international media will also be present.
The crew, coordinated by Captain Giuseppe Borgna, Director of Alitalia Flight Operations, will comprise of three further pilots (two Captains and a First Officer) and eight flight attendants, selected for their total professionalism and dedication throughout their professional career. In addition, the team dedicated to ‘special flights’ will also be on board.
Alitalia is privileged to be the airline chosen by the Holy See for the Apostolic travels of His Holiness abroad and to put at the service of the papal delegation its reliability and the quality of its services. The collaboration between Alitalia and the Holy See began 50 years ago with the historic journey to the Holy Land by Paul VI in 1964.
