Alitalia - Società Aerea Italiana ( is Italy’s largest airline. 



Alitalia has one of the most efficient fleets in the world, boasting long-haul aircraft (Boeing 777-300 ER, Boeing 777-200 ER, Airbus A330-200), medium-haul aircraft (Airbus A321, Airbus A320, Airbus A319) and regional aircraft (Embraer 190 and Embraer 175).

In 2019 Alitalia carried 21.3 million passengers. As part of its 2019-2020 winter schedule, Alitalia flies to 81 destinations, including 24 Italian and 57 international destinations, with 3,600 weekly flights.

Alitalia is a member of the SkyTeam alliance together with Aeroflot, Aerolíneas Argentinas, Aeromexico, Air Europa, Air France, China Airlines, China Eastern, Czech Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Garuda Indonesia, Kenya Airways, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Korean Air, Middle East Airlines, Saudia, Tarom, Vietnam Airlines and Xiamen Airlines.



The quality of its service, the attention to the passenger experience, the high level of professionalism, the consistent training of its crew, service technicians and all its staff have always been the hallmark of Alitalia. The distinctive Italian style comfort and elegance are always present on board Alitalia’s aircraft. On long-haul flights Alitalia offers three classes of service: Magnifica, Premium Economy, and Economy class. Magnifica guests enjoy all-aisle seats, upholstered in leather, that convert to true flatbeds, reclining a full 180 degrees and large15.4 inch. LCD screens providing on-demand audio & video, including movies, music and games. Amenity kit with personal care items are provided by Ferragamo.

The excellence and exclusivity of the service on board Alitalia is also distinguished by the sophisticated dining experience with award-winning menus featuring regional Italian cuisine, and tableware designed by Richard Ginori,: Italian regional recipes prepared with fresh products DOP and IGP are paired with premium wines selected by Alitalia’s official Sommelier in collaboration with the Italian Sommelier Foundation. Alitalia's commitment to the enhancement of Italian cuisine in the world through the onboard dining experience has received the award for "Best Airline Cuisine" for ten consecutive years (2010 to 2019). The award was given by the readers of Global Traveler Magazine for the quality of its meals served on board. The major accolade follows a large, in-depth air traveller survey in the magazine by nearly 30,000 frequent flyers who were asked to comment on excellence in the travel and tourism industry.



Maintenance of the Alitalia aircraft fleet is guaranteed by Engineering & Maintenance division. In 2019 the Engineering and Maintenance Department, including approximately 1,200 technicians, carried out intensive activity to guarantee efficiency and availability for the entire Alitalia fleet. Throughout these 12 months, a total of 110,000 interventions of different nature were carried out on all parts of the aircraft (engines, avionics ...). The interventions were carried out for the most part at Fiumicino, the company’s hub where Alitalia has 4 hangars available for maintenance activities. The Department, however, gives direct assistance in a whopping 33 airports and supervision service in other 60 airports.

Alitalia also operates Cargo transportation. The cargo activity boasts a portfolio with a wide range of products tailored to meet the demand of its customers. Many Made in Italy goods are carried on the hold of passenger aircraft and charter flights, such as fashion, art, food and pharmaceutical products In 2018 Alitalia carried over 71,000 cargo tons. In particular, Alitalia has received the CEIV Pharma certification (Center of Excellence for Independent Validators in Pharmaceutical Logistics) from the International Air Transport Association (IATA). This is the main international certificate attesting that Alitalia complies with the highest standards of transport for pharmaceutical products. The certification was issued also to the Airline’s ground handling in Rome Fiumicino, which oversees the loading and unloading drugs from aircraft, one of the ground assistance activities carried out for both Alitalia and other airlines at Rome’s airport.



The Alitalia Excellence Training Academy -  an infrastructure of two thousand square meters dedicated to the training of flight crew and ground staff – is the place where every year pilots and flight attendants held over ten thousand hours of technical training through high-tech simulators, safety exercises and classrooms training. Front line ground staff and flight crew spent over forty thousand hours for commercial and customer care training. Thanks to a highly qualified staff of certified instructors, Alitalia trains also organizes training courses for individuals and other companies.

For all those who are anxious about flying, Alitalia has designed the program "Voglia di volare”". Since 1997, more than three thousand people have overcome their fear of flying by getting to know the aircraft and crew, by becoming familiar with the technical and psychological aspects of flying. Over 90% of participants started or restarted to fly regularly. The seminar is in fact aimed both at people who have never flown, and those who live with discomfort, or with anxiety the experience of flight.



MilleMiglia has been the loyalty program of Alitalia for 25 years. It is managed by Alitalia Loyalty.  With six million members, MilleMiglia is the largest loyalty program in Italy. It includes one hundred partners - 30 airlines and 70 companies from various different fields -  that allow members to earn and / or redeem miles.
