With 82.1 per cent of flights landed on schedule, Alitalia confirms itself as the second most punctual airline in Europe in the first ten months of 2019. The result was certified by FlightStats, the authoritative US independent society which drafts the list of the major airlines in the world for on-time performance, comparing the data of equivalent airlines for size and network.
Alitalia confirmed positive on-time performance from January to October 2019: The Italian airline ranked sixth in Europe in October, a result essentially due to the transfer of flights from Milan Linate airport – closed for works – to Milan Malpensa airport for almost the whole month of October, as well as to some days of exceptional bad weather that hit several Italian airports.
After the resume of operations at Milan Linate airport on 27 October, the average on-time index of Alitalia flights in the last days of the month exceeded 90 per cent. The Italian airline therefore aims to confirm the excellent on-time performance.
FlightStats is one of the few data service companies that monitors almost every flight operated by each airline. FlighStats follows the “A14” on-time performance method, monitoring flights which arrive at the gate less than 15 minutes after the scheduled arrival time.
